 about

IMG_8810_edited.jpg

Constance Button is a photographic artist based in San Jose, CA. She takes an intuitive approach to image-making by combining an analog-minded inclination toward harvesting, slowness, and intention, with a digitally-informed ethos for manipulation, synthesis, and experimentation. She approaches image as a mechanism for reverence, interrogation, catharsis, and play.

Whether constructing tableux solely from Craigslist content, visualizing bot comments, or scanning ephemera, her practice is driven by the desire to understand and admire the ways that human touch, emotion, and history can find their way into the memories we have, the tools we use, and the experiences we live through.

Though she works primarily with photography, Constance Button's work is decidedly interdisciplinary. She often uses collage, embroidery, painting, and drawing in conjunction with her photographic works. Her work has been exhibited in multiple shows around the Bay Area. She is a graduate from San Jose State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography.
